Plan on late March to mid-April. Seoul's official first bloom averages April 8 but has come early lately: April 4 in 2025 and March 29 in 2026. Full bloom follows about a week later and lasts roughly 7 days before wind and rain strip the trees. If your trip overlaps that window, planning around the blossoms is absolutely worth it, and the best spots — Yeouido's Yunjung-ro, Seokchon Lake, the palace walls at Gyeongbokgung — are free. All four usually peak within the same week or so. One weekday morning at Yeouido plus blossoms layered over your normal palace day covers it.
The timing risk, stated plainly
Here is the deal nobody puts in the brochure: bloom dates move, your flights don't. Seoul's normal first-bloom date is April 8, yet 2021's came on March 24 (the earliest since records began in 1922) and 2026's on March 29. Even the forecasts miss: Weather i's late-February 2026 outlook put Seoul's first bloom on April 3, five days late. The Korea Meteorological Administration no longer issues bloom forecasts. Private forecasters such as K-Weather and Weather i publish theirs in late February, and the KMA then announces the actual date from its observation tree in Seoul. Treat blossoms as the bonus on a great Seoul trip, not the entire point.
What you should lock in early is the hotel. Blossom weeks are one of Seoul's tightest hotel windows: Myeongdong and Hongdae fill first and prices climb. Book a refundable rate 2–3 months out (January for a late-March trip) and you're covered either way. If your dates miss Seoul's peak, you have options in both directions: Busan's normal first-bloom date (March 28) is about ten days ahead of Seoul's, while Chuncheon, home to Nami Island, normally blooms on April 11, three days behind.

The spots are free. What sells out is everything around them — the sunset cruise slots, the palace tours and the hotel rooms.

When do cherry blossoms bloom in Seoul in 2027?
Nobody knows yet: the first forecasts from private forecasters (K-Weather, Weather i) land in late February 2027. Plan around the pattern instead. Seoul's official first bloom averages April 8, it came on April 4 in 2025 and March 29 in 2026, and full bloom follows about a week after first bloom. Late March to mid-April is the safe window, and the first half of April caught peak petals in both of the last two years. Southern cities like Busan and Jinhae normally run about ten days ahead of Seoul.
What if I miss the bloom window?
A near-miss is fixable. Arrive early and the south is already in bloom: Busan's normal first-bloom date is March 28. Arrive a few days late and the cooler country east of Seoul lags slightly: Chuncheon, home to Nami Island, normally blooms on April 11. And a missed bloom doesn't sink the trip: everything else on the ranking is date-proof.
What happens if it rains during blossom week?
One hard rain can strip trees at peak, so if you wake to full bloom and sun, drop your plans and go that day — it does not keep. If the rain wins, switch to the rainy-day plan (jjimjilbang, COEX, NANTA) and check the trees tomorrow. A light shower rarely ends the season, but a windy downpour at peak can.
Are the blossom festivals worth it?
The Yeouido Spring Flower Festival, when the road around the National Assembly closes to traffic, is worth walking exactly once, on a weekday; at weekends it's shoulder-to-shoulder. Skip the festival food stalls and eat at a proper market afterwards. The Seokchon Lake Cherry Blossom Festival is the calmer pick, with the Lotte World Tower backdrop. Both are timed to the bloom, so 2027 dates aren't announced yet; in 2026 both opened on April 3.
Do I need to book anything in advance for blossom season?
The hotel, 2–3 months out — that's the one that genuinely sells out. Sunset river-cruise slots and popular tours can sell out during the window, so book those a few days ahead. The blossoms themselves are free, and the best viewing plan is simply a weekday morning with no bookings at all.
